India performs well in primary enrollment with a gross enrollment ratio of 108% (2021), higher than countries like the US (98%), UK (102%), and even surpassing the global average of 101%.
2. Secondary Enrollment:
India’s secondary enrollment ratio stands at 79% (2021), still above the global average of 77%, but it is lower than countries like the US (101%), UK (113%), and Japan (103%).
3. Tertiary Enrollment:
At the tertiary (higher education) level, India’s enrollment ratio is 32%, far below the global average of 42%. This highlights the need for improvements in higher education accessibility, compared to countries like the US (85%), UK (77%), and Japan (72%).
4. Higher Education Universe:
- Undergraduate Enrollment: 78.9% of India’s higher education students are enrolled in undergraduate courses.
- Postgraduate Enrollment: 12.1% are in postgraduate courses.
5. Education in 2047 (Projections):
- 300–350 million students expected in schools (up from 265 million currently).
- 100–120 million students expected in higher education (up from 43 million currently).
- Schools required: 2–2.2 million schools (from the current 1.5 million).
