Absolutely! Let’s see what the medical definition of health is.

According to the medical journals, there are three possible definitions of health.

(1) The first is that health is the absence of any disease or impairment.

(2) The second is that health is a state that allows the individual to adequately cope with all demands of daily life (implying also the absence of disease and impairment).

(3) The third definition states that health is a state of balance, an equilibrium that an individual has established within himself and between himself and his social and physical environment.

All three definitions indicate that an individual needs to take care of his or her health.

If there is a disease, for whatever reason, the individual may or may not be able to handle it by himself or herself and has to seek a doctor’s help to get back to health.

But just for maintaining one’s mental and physical health, one should not rely on a doctor’s help. It has to be their own business.

Even if you argue that “I go to a doctor to get a vitamin tablet to boost my health”, still it is your business to take the medicines on time and thereby take care of your health.

However, it should not be construed that you can do everything on your own without a doctor’s support completely.

  1. Limited Medical Knowledge: Most people lack the extensive medical knowledge and training of doctors. While you might understand your body well, doctors can identify underlying issues, interpret symptoms, and diagnose illnesses you might miss. Early detection and treatment are crucial for many health conditions.
  2. Access to Diagnostics and Treatments: Doctors have access to diagnostic tools like X-rays, blood tests, and specialized equipment to pinpoint the cause of your health concerns. They can also prescribe medications, recommend treatments, and perform procedures you wouldn’t be able to do yourself.
  3. Long-Term Care and Monitoring: Many health conditions require ongoing monitoring and management. Doctors can develop a personalized care plan, track your progress, and adjust treatments as needed. They can also be a valuable resource for support and guidance throughout your health journey.

But if you rely on a doctor for everything, you cannot make the right choices for you.

You have the right to make your own choices about your body and well-being. This includes the freedom to research health information, explore alternative therapies, and choose treatments that align with your values and beliefs.

Taking ownership of your health empowers you to develop healthy habits, make informed decisions about diet and exercise, and manage stress effectively. This proactive approach can lead to a more holistic sense of well-being.

Many health problems can be prevented through lifestyle changes. By prioritizing healthy eating, exercise, and stress management, you can reduce the risk of chronic diseases and maintain optimal health without relying solely on medical interventions.
