Keylogging — What is it?

Imagine this — as you keep typing your banking user ID and password, the keystrokes from your laptop or desktop are being sent to a hacker remotely. The horror! Now imagine this, it keeps happening continuously and you do not even know about it 🤯

Welcome to the world of #Keylogging! ‘Keylogging’ refers to the process of recording every keystroke that a user types on a specific computer’s keyboard.

Keylogger software has been available for Windows systems for over a decade now and does not require any special knowledge or skill to install or use them.

#Keyloggers can get installed when one uses a hacked USB drive or clicks on a malicious link/document in SMS or WhatsApp or email.

There are also hardware keyloggers available that can store “a lot” of keystrokes (with extensible storage via SD / MicroSD cards).

Any tool can be used maliciously by vested interests. Keyloggers weren’t made for such purposes but are used so now mostly. Heck, there are even tutorials on the Internet teaching people how to make their own keyloggers via simple scripts.

Once installed, most keyloggers can’t even be detected easily.

So, be safe and avoid opening unknown documents/links from untrusted sources or using untrusted/unscanned USB drives.
