Lightning to USB-C
One thing iPhone users hate most is the inability to add songs or videos or documents as they want to their phones, unlike most Android users who can swap files at will. The next thing they hate most is likely the dependency on the lightning cable to charge iPhone.
Apple introduced the Lightning port in 2012 with iPhone5. After ten years with this technology, people would really want to streamline their charging cables with USB-C. Everyone, including me, disliked spending extra money on the lightning charger.
But that is about to change, and within a year, if the EU has its plans implemented. EU says that by 28th December 2024 all iPhones must offer USB-C charging.
The USB-C port brings good news in more ways than one — it is about 33% faster than Lightning. The Lightning port supports USB 2.0 with a data transfer speed of 480 Mbps, while USB-C supports USB 3.0 with a data faster speed of 640 Mbps.
Will this Lightning to USB-C switch happen with iPhone 15 or 16? We do not know yet. One prediction is that iPhone 15 Pro+ models could have USB-C and the regular models could continue the Lightning charging. iPhone 16 could have all models with USB-C charging.
