In the 1990s-2000s, pirated software gave a huge boost to Indian IT by enabling many more people learn technology the cheap way. The menace is being curbed but one cannot deny we benefited from it over the longer term.

The cheap Chinese mobile phones are doing something similar now to India, especially in the rural sector. It is an open secret that China employs economic warfare against Indian manufacturers. Yet, the Indian Government has decided not to block access to cheaper Chinese phones, though they are hurting the Indian mobile manufacturers in the short term.

The Indian Government banned many Chinese apps citing security reasons and social impact. But we all know that the Indian market is flooded with cheap Chinese phones, cheap Chinese toys, and cheap sensors & electronics imported from China, legally or illegally.

Every country has a problem with China. Many agree that China claims to be a communist country but practices among the worst forms of capitalism exploiting its workers like anything.

But can China’s power in the world be ignored or negated by any country? I don’t believe so.

We all know the open stand (seemingly) that the USA has with China. It is another classic love-hate relationship. Diplomatic relations between the U.S. and China are deteriorating. The USA has also stated that China’s rising technological competition is its top security threat.

Despite those views, however, the U.S. has just approved almost all tech sales to China.

China exported a staggering $135Bn in consumer electronics to the U.S. in 2021, even though experts agree that such moves may eventually harm the USA’s interests.

So, who will bell China and how? India seems to be the only country that has some will and the capability to do that. But the time has not yet come apparently.

We will explore later the #Chinese dominance in technology and its effects. For now, the fiery Chinese dragon is still roaming the skies.
