Young and Spiritual?

When you are young and tread the spiritual path, you will face so many impediments in the form of people’s opinions.

- If you are a guy, your friends will think you are weird and your family will fear you will leave them

- If you are a lady, your friends and family fear you will not get married

- If you were smoking or consuming alcohol and leave the habit after taking up spirituality, you appear weirder to others. They will even call you deprived 😃

- If you have tears in your eyes out of joy, others will laugh at you calling you an emotional fool

- If you remain balanced in situations where others will go through emotional turmoil, they will blame you for having become emotionless

- If you decide to marry or want to be single through the life, whatever step you may take, there could be difficulties. Your spouse may not be understanding enough of your spiritual pursuit. Or your family will be too anxious that you are not marrying. Or you may not want to have a child.

- If you decide to stop your spiritual pursuit, some people may express their happiness about it but inwardly feel that you are a failure. Some people may tell you that on your face while others won’t.

These ‘Others’ will have an opinion no matter what you do in life. It is just that they feel insecure, most of the times without their own knowledge, looking at your actions or inaction.

No matter what happens, if you persist on the journey to find yourself (a.k.a) the spiritual path, and especially if you are blessed with the grace of a living spiritual master, slowly things will settle down.

Either others will get tired of mocking you or they will come to accept you as you are. In the presence or grace of a spiritual master, especially a living one, how we make use of the opportunities that come our way is all that matters.
